What makes the Grand Teton Mountain Range so unique is how the peaks shoot up straight out of the valley floor or surrounding lakes. Typically foothills mask the beauty of the mountains but in Jackson Hole, photographers can't get enough of the dramatic rise.
Jackson Lake provides one of the best-unobstructed views of the full range with sunrise and still water providing a classic reflected view. The beauty about Jackson Lake is that it works well at sunrise and sunset or even at midnight like this long exposure photograph on Jackson Lake Dam with the moon illuminating the mountains.
Parking is provided on one side of the dam and depending on how fast the sunset is disappearing you will need to sprint back across to the other side of the dam to get a clean view of the entire range. Jackson Lake is the spot I can return to and know I'll get a good shot even when all of the other areas aren't working out. It's my failsafe option, and usually delivers.
